Every day on campus, many students walk from one class to another carrying more than just their bags.
They carry hunger, exhaustion, and constant worry of where their next meal will come from, especially since we have many lectures on the same day.
The lack of accessible and affordable food options has turned a basic human need into a nightmare.
Moreover, imagine a student sitting through a two- or three-hour lecture her stomach empty since early morning, trying to focus on the lecture while she is starving.
When hunger becomes unbearable, she finds herself struggling between two options: overpay for food that barely satisfies her needs or drive to the nearest mall to buy what she needs, which is not something realistic to do every day.
Furthermore, this issue may seem small, but it has a significant impact on students’ comfort, focus, and overall university experience. As a result, the university may not be a suitable place for students to spend long hours. In addition, as students become distracted by hunger, their participation in class may decrease, and their academic performance may suffer.
Over time, it may also affect students’ physical well-being.
Given these challenges, it is important to consider practical solutions that can better support students on campus
From my perspective, a variety of food supplies, drinks, and snacks are not luxuries. Having a mini supermarket on campus, increasing the number of canteens, and providing more cafés that offer healthy meals, as well as additional tables and chairs, would be beneficial. In addition, prices should be suitable for students’ budgets because students need to eat every day.
Ideally, a complete meal on campus should not cost more than 15 SAR, ensuring that students have access to affordable and nutritious food.
In conclusion, having efficient food resources with affordable prices can enhance the quality of campus life and make the college journey memorable to all the students.
